The "N" Word...

Friday, July 18, 2008

I use it all the time!

As hypocritical as it may seem that the majority of Black people don't think any other races should use the word, that's just the way it is.

I found this clip of the women from "The View" discussing the nature of the N word really interesting. Whoopi hits the nail right on the head for me.

The word "nigger" was once used as a term to put Black people down. We in turn "took [the N word] out of the hands of the people who were using it, and put it into our hands and we use it the way we want to use it" as Whoopi said.

Sadly, White people really just won't ever understand where some of us are coming from on this subject--and I really don't expect them to. Hell, I'm pretty aware that some of them use the word in the privacy of their own homes (probably not in the same way "we" use it).

And Elisabeth really believes that "we are living in the same world." Honey, as much as I wish that were true, its so far from it.  We've got to fight twice as hard to catch a ray from the same sun thats shining down on you soely because of the color of our skin. I wish I could change it overnight, but I can't.

AND BY THE WAY! That Jesse Jackson is working my nerves right about now. He needs to sit his tail down and quit frontin' on the N word. He was the one who went the hardest on NOT using it-- but I guess he meant not using it publicly. I knew he used that word all along. I'm not surprised by this leaked clip they have out right now. Not in the least bit.

p.s. did anyone else laugh when Elisabeth started crying?

You know why Elizabeth had such a hard time grasping the issue around her psyche? It's because often times white people would rather ignore or accept the fact that race is everything. This probably stem from the fact that subconsiously when you try and have a sit down talk about race with them, a form of guilt may build in their guts. Not to say that Whoopie is blaming her or her parents parents for slavery but is it the truth and if I were white I'd proabably feel uncomfortable too. However as a white person trying to relate or make light of the conversation by wanting to believe that we live in the "same" world goes back to them feeling comfort in maintaining their state of denial. Elizabeth may say she understands but at the end of the day she still believes that "we" live in the "same" world because it's easier to keep her rose colored glasses than accepting the truth that "we" are not the "same". That's why i'm guessing she got so emotional and started her boo hoo hooing.
