Update:

Thursday, December 4, 2008

It's been a while so I thought I owed it to the life of my blog to at least say something!

I've been going through a lot of different things lately. My feelings are all over the places. Emotions are high and projections of my future are very unclear. I'm dealing with it though.

Since I've said that, why not lay down some food for thought.

Its always been said that sometimes the one thing you need isn't always what you want. I wonder if that applies to love.

If you know me, you know that I've never seen myself as girlfriend material. When I say that, I don't mean it in the sense that I'm a bad person. I just think that I don't function well in relationships. The title "girlfriend" is a scary thing for me.

I've always thought that maybe if I found "the one" that I've created in my mind that all of this would change. Well, what happens when things don't go as planned and "the one" may not exist at all? Is it better to be alone and just wait and hope that "the one" will show up in the package you want or take a chance on something else that comes along?

I think that may be a bit of a rhetorical question. I'm not even sure I want the answer to that one.

BARACK OBAMA 44th U.S. PRESIDENT: YES WE DID!

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

Today is election day. November 4, 2008. I voted for the very first time today in favor of Obama/Biden. Up until now, I had never heard of so many young people excited about voting. The turn out was phenomenal. I didn't even mind waiting in line for an hour to cast my single vote.

It is now 5 minutes after 11pm. Some 42 years after the declaration of independence, a Black man has become president of the United States of America.

When Barack Obama was elected our next president, I immediately thought back to all that Martin Luther King stood and died for and this great indescribable feeling came rushing over me. I can't say that I can 100% relate to the struggles of the Blacks that came before me but I feel every bit of happiness and joy that those who died in the name of civil rights would feel if they had been able to see this day.

After so many years of "we will never have a Black president" and "America isn't ready for a Black president," I would have never thought I would see the day when it would come to pass.

Whether you agree with his ideologies or not, this is a historic moment and I am most grateful that I was able to be a part of it.

I don't think of Obama is a super-being and I realize that this is no easy task for him to take on but I do sincerely pray that God leads him to guide this country into better times than we are in now. I also pray that the next four years will be some of the best four years of our lives in America.

Here's to those who doubted us and what we could accomplish as a people! I don't expect this to completely change everything for African-Americans overnight but this should definitely make the world think twice about who we are.

20 Essentials to Clubbing

Tuesday, October 21, 2008

So I stole this... who cares!

It was funny!

There is a such thing as club etiquette! Learn it and Live it--especially if you reside in the tri-state area.

1. Stop holding up the line negotiating with the bouncers and doormen! If you can't afford to pay the cover charge or you don't have a reliable connection to get you in for free KEEP IT MOVIN.

2. If your old enough to go a club, your old enough to know how to dress. Promoters are tired of getting hundreds of calls from people asking the same dumb question "Whats the dress code?" and wasting valuable promo space on flyers/websites explaining what proper club attire is.

3. Bottles are a luxury, Rent is a priority....If you run the risk of your lights not being on when you get home, sticks to mixed drinks and shots.....Don't worry you weren't going to get any numbers anyways.

4. THESE DANCES ARE STRICTLY FORBIDDEN IN ANY QUALITY NIGHT CLUB: Chicken Noodle Soup, The Willy Bounce, Dutty Wine, Wu-Tang (N.J.), and basically any dance you break a sweat doing.

5. Ladies, no one likes a groupie. Don't get lost when the bottles are being ordered and paid for, then show up with ya whole crew when the waitress brings them out. You'll forever be labeled a "GROUPIE" and that's no. 2 on the list right below being a MALE GROUPIE.

6. Photography websites are not for your personal use people. Stop making the photographer take 5 re-takes of you because you need a new myspace or facebook profile picture. (This goes for aspiring models as well, 7days7night.com isn't here to help you build your portfolio)

7. I saw this at a club once and TOTALLY agree....."Fighting in the club is GAY, there are too many girls in there to be worried about another man."

8. Ladies stretch pants and shirts you turn into dresses are a cheap excuse for an outfit STOP IT, you've been warned!

9. If you get in the club FREE, the least you can do is look presentable. Ladies please do your hair.

10. KNOW YOUR LIMIT! This goes for everyone, throwing up or passing out on the dance floor isn't a good look.

11. When you see a celebrity in club, say hi and keep it moving. Groupies are at the end of the food chain, so at best your gonna get a wave with a "beat it chick" expression....that is unless you puttin out (just being honest).

12. Dance crews are out of style in the club, take that to Randy Jackson & MTV.

13. Fellas when you see a celebrity in the club, realize that is not the time to pass off your demo tape or your reality TV show ideas, or talk reckless, they don't care.......that's what got Yung Berg smacked.

14. Fila "Pradas" are a no no!

15. To my so called ballas, Moet White Star are in the same group as "Fila Pradas".

16. Stuntin really aint stuntin if the bottles are $175 or less (Any dude with a part time job can afford $85 dollar bottles of Rose` every week)

17. WALL FLOWERS HAVE NEVER BEEN IN STYLE....Dance in the club if there is good music, F it dance if its not damn it.

18. Strictly for my DJs....Stop coming with 20 heads on ya comp list and its only you Djing (Directly from promoters)

19. Strippers as the featured special in a night club are trashy. Anyone with a touch of class will tell you that.....Sue's Rendezvous is a freeway drive away.

20. NO SKINNY JEANS IN THE CLUB.....more to come on this issue

lmaooooooooooooooo.... Good one big brother!

Let me say this, in regard to no. 15--- Fila "Pradas" are a HELL no!

Beyonce: Single Ladies Video

As usual, Beyonce' delivers a new anthem for corny girls to get hype over.
If you like it then you should've put a ring on it!
That line has already begun flooding away messages and Myspace display names.

I have to say that I really don't like the song too much. Judging by the opinion of everyone else, I'm in the minority. I absolutely L-O-V-E the choreography though and the "whoa oh oh oh oh oh" part of the song -- if that counts for anything.

Kanye West : Love Lockdown

Thursday, October 9, 2008

--- I don't get it.

Maybe someone could explain the video to me-- Hell, I barely understand the song.

I'm all for Africans but I don't see how the African dancers in full African garb relate to the "love lockdown."

I love Kanye and all but this is just way too complex for my pea brain to grasp.

Whatever happened to just throwing a party in someone's living room and calling it a video?

Meeting Brandy: A Dream Come True

Saturday, October 4, 2008

If you know me, you known that I've been a Brandy fan since '94. A die hard Brandy fan! A fan that had (and still has) a "Brandy Box."

I always imagined what it would be like when I finally got the chance to meet her in person. I practiced what I'd say and mulled over how I would act.

Well, that day finally came on Thursday, October 2, 2008. My friend, Conisha and I went to see her at club Element for an after work party she was hosting alongside radio station, Hot 97.

She came into the club at around 930ish. I saw her when she came in from the balcony area where the VIP were. I thought to myself, "she's never going to come down here and I'll probably never go up there but it was nice to at least see her."

About an hour had went by when I looked up and saw a friend of mine, Ian, taking her picture! I immediately got out my cell phone and started dialing and texting to let him know I was here.

I stood by the entry way just in case she decided to come down. As I stood there, Ian came down the stairs. I tapped him on his shoulder and said hello. He then took me upstairs where I saw her talking to other people and taking pictures with fans.

I started thinking of things to say-- nothing. She looked at me and waved. I didn't wave back. What the heck was wrong with me?

Ian nudged me and told me to go over and say something. When I walked over to her I just asked her if she ever gotten my letter that I wrote to her--- stupid question. She gets tons of those, duh!

Of course she didn't remember so I just asked to take a picture with her for keepsake and she agreed.

And just that quick, the meeting was adjourned but I was as happy as I had ever been in my entire life. I played it cool though, I couldn't let people think I was a groupie or anything like that of course.

And if you didn't already know, Brandy's new album, Human, is set for release in November. The cover is definitely a good look. And if you don't think so, you're probably hating.

Nick Thune: Two Birds/ Instant Messenger

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

Here' two clips of comedian Nick Thune on Comedy Central doing a very hilarious stand up act.

If you don't laugh, you lack sense of humor.

p.s. Isn't he kind of cute??

"When in history was there an abundance of birds and a shortage of rocks?" lmao!!!

NO, POPRAH, NO!!!!!!!!

"I can't invent a list, sir," was the famous response that Kim a.k.a "PoPrah" from "I Want to Work for Diddy" gave to Diddy when he asked her for the list of names on the guest list.

What was she thinking!?!?!?!? Who would honestly say that to their boss no matter how ridiculous their requests may be to you.

For someone who wanted to be Diddy's assistant oh so badly, she sure did mess that up big time!

I was rooting for you 'poprah!' why!?!?

On another note, lets backtrack to the episode when Kim said that she gained all of that weight so that people would take her seriously.

For all of you who wondered what she looked like before the cakes and pies... tah-da!

Kim was a former talk show host who went by the name "Tempest." She was very pretty (and still is) but, she was tacky as hell! That pink outfit was and will never be a good look.

Little Brother + Some Other Good Music

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

When I'm at work, my ipod is on play at all times. You could only imagine how much music I listen to during those 8 hours.

As of late, I've been listening to a lot of music by the now rap duo Little Brother. The group, formerly a trio that featured hip-hop producer, 9th Wonder, hail from Durham, North Carolina. The music is nothing close to country. One of their most famous songs was entitled "lovin' it." Its definitely a classic on my list.

I really really love their music and I'm still wondering why the majority of people I speak to don't know who they are. Their album, "The Minstrel Show," is one of my favorite albums, hands down! " The album received 4.5 mics from The Source Magazine --- use that as incentive to check it out! "Get Back" is dope too!

If you don't know who they are, I really encourage you to have a listen.

Keeping this post in the spirit of good music, here are some other albums I think you should check out:

"I Am" by Chrisette Michelle (if you like that sultry old school vibe type of music)

"The Year of the Gentleman" by Ne-yo

"Lessons In Love" by Lloyd (its definitely a good look for him)

Gala Affair @ Glen Cove Mansion: Photography by Me

Monday, September 22, 2008

Last Friday, my mom had a gala affair to kick of her "49 & Under" club. It took place at the Glen Cove Mansion -- in Glen Cove (go figure).

I was in charge of the photography for the night. Just thought I'd share some of the photos with you all.

Note: Everyone there was not "49 & Under."

Project Runway @ Bryant Park + MTV Awards 2008 + Kanye's Smash Fest

Saturday, September 13, 2008

As usual, I'm late concerning almost everything. Who cares though? My opinion is probably the only one that counts--right?

Let me begin by saying that I attended 0% of the fashion week events that were held in NYC. Absolutely none. Do I feel any kind of way about missing out? Nah. The only event I'd probably like to have gone to was the "Project Runway Finale" show.

Here's a clip of some of the season 4 contestants designs that had a chance to hit the runway at Bryant Park this year.

I do not who won or who were in the final three but Korto rocks! She's one phenomenal designer-- and a sista! [holla!]

Next up, the MTV Awards. I was never a real fan of the Awards at all but I will say that I'm glad Britney is back on her feet and lost that pouch of a stomach she was displaying in the previous year.

As for our host for the evening... who is he and why was he hosting the show?

Rihanna-- *yaaawwwnnn* She's fabulous and all but her stage vocals could use a TON of work. I would never pay to hear that in concert.

And the "Hottie of the Night" award goes to, Chance Crawford! Good googly moogly he's hot! Do you see his eyes???

I can't remember anything else that happened that night.

Okay, moving right along to this Kanye West fiasco. If you haven't heard by now, Kanye and [nameless homeboy] got a little upset with the paparazzi and decided to snatch and smash the camera guy's camera & flash. After watching the footage I couldn't help but to laugh. I personally thought it was funny but I'm sure the camera man didn't. Being a photography lover and knowing how expensive that equipment costs, I would have had to smash his face after that.

Word is that Kanye was arrested. I know nothing that happened after that. Do the research on your own.

I've been published in Nick Jr. Magazine!

Saturday, September 6, 2008

As I was surfing the web, I decided to google myself. I came across a feature with my name on it from the September issue of Nick Jr. Magazine. My very first byline with a national publication. How dope is that!?!

I interned with Nick Jr. Magazine during the Spring semester of 2008 which was also my last semester as an undergraduate at St. John's University. The internship was really cool as well as insightful. The people there were so helpful and genuinely kind people. I never heard them talk about each other negatively, the way they do at my new job. They were on time with everything and were really creative thinkers. Because of that experience, I now know the kind of work environment I need to work in if I want to get things done.

Getting back to my publication, it isn't full of words---It's a magazine for children! Most who can't read very well as of yet. It's actually two children's activities I came up with for the magazine.

I think I could show you better than I could tell you. Flip through this link and check them out!
Pages, 21 & 27 on the site and pages 20 & 26 in the actual magazine.

One of my activities was named in an article on the September issue.

The main magazine has some friendship themed activities, but a good amount of the activities are just general play themed. A few of the activities are Best Buddies matching game, First Day Friends of Mine song, Give ‘Em a Hand hidden picture, and Kai-Lan’s Dino Games board game.
read more here
Since, I'm on the subject of Nick Jr. Magazine, I'd be wrong if I didn't tell you what an excellent magazine this is for young children as well as parents! I'm not just saying that because I did lots of free work for them.

There is a parenting insert featured in each issue where you can find cool recipes, tips on parenting (in partner with parentsconnect.com), and an assortment of ways to have lots of fun with your children. My niece loves for me to sit with her and do the activities inside of the magazine. Its also a great way to get the kids out of your hair for a little while. There's some really cool stuff in these pages! If you're a school teacher, order a bunch for your classroom!

I think that will be all!

Fashion Week in NYC!

Friday, September 5, 2008

It's that time again! I'm sure all of the fashion heads, fashion-fakes, and go hards are totally stoked!

Mercedes Benz fashion week will be held from September 5, 2008- September 12, 2008.

seventh look eighth look ninth look tenth look eleventh look twelfth look

During this time, a host of fashion shows and events take place that most of us regular folk aren't invited to and can't get into without paying a hefty fee. The cheap tickets are standing only for the most part. Wouldn't catch me standing up watching a fashion show.

first look second look third look fourth look fifth look sixth look

Some of this years designers and brands include, Rock & Republic, Alexandre Herchcovitch, Duckie Brown [Not the local guy], Lela Rose, Diane Von Fursetnburg, Miss Sixty, Luca Luca, Ralph Lauren, Sean Jean, Tracy Reese, Cynthia Steffe [gorgeous stuff!], Betsy Johnson and sooooo many more!

first look second look third look fourth look fifth look sixth look

In the unlikely event that I do get a chance to catch a show or two this year, I'll be sure to let you guys know about it--all six of my readers.

Awww, you weren't invited either!? Don't feel bad. We can't afford anything coming down the runway anyway! Catch me at the sale rack in Lord & Taylor!

Do check out 30daysoffashion.com for a list of some cool fashion events for the month of September 2008!!!

Ciara Nude on VIBE Magazine Cover

Thursday, September 4, 2008

Apparently her "goodies" are all over the latest cover of VIBE Magazine. There's actually a shot of her "backs" somewhere in the pages. You're going to have to check that out on your own time.

I've got to admit, she looks good. Very much grown up. She's come a very long way from her tom boyish days.

I really like Ciara as an artist and a performer but I'm just really trying to figure out when she became such a sex symbol. Must have been some time after that Bow Wow fiasco. [I still can't believe this giant broad was dating that little boy.]

She is currently working on her new album that will be released later on this year entitled "Fantasy Ride." Judging by its title, I assume its going to be a really sensual and sexual album. She's really been on that freaky tip as of late.

I had a chance to listen to a few of the leaked tracks and I absolutely love "Supernatural." I'm reallly looking forward to this one.

Supernatural - Ciara

You can also check out what I believe to be the first single off the album, "Go Girl," featuring T-pain. You can do that on your own time as well.

Teenaged Pregnancy: What's race got to do with it?

... A whole damn lot when it comes to the media.

I really hate to keep going back to this whole race thing but life experiences are very much different depending on your race. As we all know, Senator McCain's new running mate, Sarah Palin, has a 17-year-old pregnant and unwed daughter, Bristol.

Bristol isn't the first [or last] teen to be pregnant and unmarried. However, her pregnancy isn't what's upsetting me. What ticks me off is the fact that no one really says too much about it or has tried to really throw it in Palin's face the way they beat Obama over the head with his loud-mouthed, America-bashing [former] pastor, Rev.

I strongly believe that had Bristol been a "sista," we wouldn't have heard the end of it. Had that been one of Obama's daughters, the American people would have flipped this presidency race upside down and he wouldn't even stand a chance.

While America condemns those women of color who have found themselves in the same predicament, they have practically rallied behind Bristol and her family. A complete hypocrisy.

Just take a look at how CNN broadcasted the faults of unwed and pregnant Black women in America in the "Black In America" TV special. However, according to news reports, Bristol plans to marry to father of the baby which is apparently the opposite of what Black women are doing. According to "Black In America, " Black women rarely ever get married and the fathers of the children don't generally stick around.

I think I'm going to stop there.

Honestly, I don't see what Bristol's pregnancy or Obama's former pastor has to do with the people involved in the presidential race anyway. So what if the girl got knocked up. Her pregnancy isn't even interesting! Why is it all over the news? And so what if Obama's former pastor took his 15-minutes of fame to new and drastic heights of ultimate embarrassment. Neither are running for a seat in the White House.

Lets stop worrying so much about everything else except the people who will potentially run our country.

Brandy's New Video: Right Here (Departed)

Wednesday, September 3, 2008

Back from her hiatus, here is Brandy's latest video! Check it out!

oooooooh im excited! :)

p.s. word on the street is that she's in NY. Stalk Stalk Stalk! (just kidding!)

And just for old times sake--- remember this video??? Pure hotness. Ahhh the 90s memories. When music was cool.

Cassie's New Video: Official Girl

Friday, August 29, 2008

Chances are, I'm really late and everyone has seen this video already but ummm... It's my blog and it only matters that I'm just now seeing it.

I'm very ashamed to say this but, I do like this song! The beat is nice, the vocals of course need work, but the lyrics make up for that.

I guess Cassie isn't really into subliminal messages. Its either that or she isn't aware that we all know about her scandals. The songs lyrical content makes it way too apparent that this song is all about her relationship with media mogul, "Diddy." You [Cassie] probably won't ever be that official girl. [sighs]

Yeah, but the video is pretty decent. I liked the choreography--- not her dancing in particular. The fashion is ridiculous! The gladiator styled boots! Good googly moogly them thangs are pretty!

I still wonder why she's even still singing. I would advise her to stick to modeling but I'm not being paid for this priceless advice. I doubt her album will move many units, if any at all, but I guess it does pay to be a "bad b*tch."

Single Black Female: Where have all the Black men gone?

Thursday, August 28, 2008

According to statistics, 45% of Black women have never been married.

I'm a 20-year-old, African-American woman and I'm single.

Lets be clear, I'm single by CHOICE! Yes, the choice is mine. It seems that the "dating pool" as far as African-American men are concerned, is quite shallow. I only bring up African-American men specifically because I'm just attracted to them in particular. Not to say that I wouldn't date outside of my race, because I definitely would if the right man came along.

I look back to when I was about 13 years old and I would talk with my girlfriends about how I planned to be married with children by the age of 25. I now measure those dreams against my present reality.

Reality slapped me really hard! As I approached the age of 18, I saw more and more "baby mamas" and not enough wives in the Black community. I also so more and more Black women fighting over the same Black man. I also met some Black brothers who were on the "down low." I saw a lot of Black men going to jail instead of college. And the ones I met in college--- well, lets just say they weren't a match for the man I'd often dreamt about. Hell, they didn't even come close!

Well, I seem to find the not-so-good Black men just fine. So, where have all the good Black men gone?

Some have said that my standards are set too high. My mother always told me that I should never settle for less. If an intelligent, goal-oriented, spiritual man who happens to be easy on the eyes is too much to ask for, I might be single for the rest of my life.

I can only hope that Black men will get it together before I decide to test some new waters.

Michael Jackson and these damned pajamas!

I have been a devoted Michael Jackson fan since I could speak regular English words. Seeing him in this condition is a serious blow to my heart.

It has nothing to do with the fact that he isn't physically a "Black man" anymore or that his once upon a time afro has now become a European textured wig. It's more so the numerous surgeries, the missing nose, and those damn pajama pants!

Although I was never a fan of those signature old school high-water pants Michael wears, I would much rather look at those than these pajama pants he's been stepping out in lately.

Here, he was spotted at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas wearing these hospital styled pajama pants accompanied by a suit jacket. It almost looks like he planned this outfit.

Where are his family members? Do they not give a damn? Who told him it was okay to leave the house like this? Poor Michael looks sick as hell.

Cafetasia: Thai and Asian Inspired Food

Saturday, August 23, 2008

Hungry and don't have that much cash to spare? Here's an affordable option for the "not so deep pocket" if you're in the Manhattan area. Cafetasia, a Thai and Asian inspired restaurant.

I ate there for the first time on a Wednesday afternoon. I was able to fill my belly on  a $7.50 lunch special. The most expensive item on the menu is $13.

The food is fairly good--- at least what I ate was good. I'd give it about a 7.5/10.  Might leave a bad aftertaste so bring a toothbrush!

The ambiance is cool and the chairs are really comfy too!

Enjoy!

Brandy is Back! New Look and New Single!

Monday, August 18, 2008

I love brandy as an artist and I am really excited to see what new music she has in store for her fans. Way too many people slept on "Aphrodisiac." That album was great!

Her new single, "Right Here (Departed)" has been recently released to the public. I personally can do without that lame 1990's Rodney Jerkins "Darkchild" intro. However, the song is pretty good. I don't absolutely love it but I do like it.

Listen to the song here

Laverne Cox : One Lucky Lapdance

Sunday, August 10, 2008

Anyone who watches reality TV should recognize this face (left)!  This is the face of Laverne Cox of P. Diddy's new show, "I want to work for Diddy."

Laverne looked awfully familiar to me and I couldn't quite put my finger on it until I looked through some old photos and came across this one (below).
This is a photo taken of the drag queen extraordinaire doing what he/she does best! That's right folk, give out lap dances at NY restaurant "Lucky Chengs."

Some friends of mine took me to this restaurant some time earlier this year. I hadn't a clue what it was all about until I got there. All that I could tell from the name was that it was Asian.

All of the "waitresses" are transsexual males. Although the food is really good, I don't think I'd ever go back. The lapdancing over my stir fry was a bit too much.

If you'd like to see what kind of mess goes on inside of Lucky Chengs, check out this youtube clip of Laverne dancing like it was for Diddy.
